How to use a silicone ice cube tray?
Ice cubes are a must-have for outdoor gatherings, pool parties, and house parties. If you want to serve ice cubes in different shapes and sizes, a silicone ice cube tray may be your best bet.
Step 1: Fill the Tray with Water
Before using the silicone ice cube tray, ensure that it is clean and dry. Fill the tray with water, leaving 1/4 inch of space at the top. If you want flavored ice cubes, add a few drops of your preferred flavoring or juice to the water.
Step 2: Freeze the Tray
Once you have filled the tray, you should make sure it's flat so the water doesn't spill out and freeze it. Place the tray in the freezer and allow it to freeze. It takes approximately two hours or longer depending on your freezer.
Step 3: Remove the Ice Cubes
Remove the tray from the freezer and let it sit for a few minutes to allow the ice cubes to warm up slightly. When the ice cubes are sufficiently freed from the silicone moulds, you can pop them out one by one. You may need to twist the tray a bit if necessary to break them free.
Step 4: Store Ice Cubes
After removing ice cubes from the tray, you can either use them right away or store them in a sealed container or freezer bag to keep them from getting freezer burns. You may also refill the tray with water and freeze it for another batch of ice cubes.
Step 5: Cleaning
After using the tray, don't forget to wash it thoroughly to dislodge any remaining residue in the tray. Hand washing is always best. Dry it with a clean towel or cloth, then store it until the next time you need it.
Tip: Add Fresh Herbs to Ice Cubes!
You can for added color and flavor to your ice cubes add fresh herbs before filling the tray with water. Place a sprig of fresh mint, basil, or other herbs in each mould before adding water. It's an effortless way to turn ordinary ice into a more flavorful one.
Tip: Create Multi-Use Cubes!
Silicone ice trays are versatile since they can make more than just regular ice cubes. You can use the trays for freezing food portions like pesto, baby food and more. Make ice cubes infused with lavender or mint, for a refreshing change to drinks, or freeze leftover wine to add to your favorite recipe. Silicone moulds are perfect for making chocolate bowls, jelly, soap and more!
Tip: Experiment with Add-Ins
Experimenting with add-ins when freezing ice cubes is one of the best ways to create your favorite frozen beverages. Add edible flowers, slices of citrus, or even chunks of fruit to ice cubes and wait for them to freeze. The add-ins will give the ice cubes extra flavors, and make your drinks look amazing.
Tip: Make a Large Batch
If you have an upcoming event or party, it's essential to prepare enough ice. If you have a larger silicone ice cube tray, you can use them to make a larger quantity of ice cubes at once. Do this days before the party to avoid running out of ice in the middle of the event.
Tip: Use for Cocktail Garnishes
You can use silicone ice cube trays to make frozen garnishes the next time you throw a party. Freeze small bites such as olives, grapes, berries, and citrus zest along with water or juice to make lovely and decorative garnishes. They'll add significant taste to your cocktails and please your guests with their swanky look.
